An extraordinary administrator doesn't really make an incredible pioneer, and an incredible pioneer doesn't really make an incredible director. The executives controls or coordinates individuals/assets in a gathering as indicated by standards or qualities that have just been built up. Authority is setting another heading or vision for a gathering that they follow, I. e. : a pioneer is the initiate for that new direction. The supervisor utilizes a formal, sane technique while the pioneer utilizes enthusiasm and blends feelings. Individuals normally and enthusiastically follow pioneers because of their appeal and character characteristics, while a supervisor is complied with because of the conventional position vested in him/her. Accordingly, individuals will in general be more faithful towards pioneers instead of supervisors. Supervisors administer representatives. They make arrangements, delegate duties, and organize exercises. They will likely make something that is determinable and repeatable. Pioneers are centered around realizing development and change for the company.Their essential job is to rouse individuals and to propel workers. They are centered around change. They make a feeling of vision, expectation, and arrangement among workers. An association can't flourish without a supervisor, and it can't flourish without a pioneer. Initiative and the executives must go connected at the hip to be effective â⬠both in corporate and easygoing settings. They are connected, and complimentary to each other. Chiefs will:Leaders will: AdministrateInnovate MaintainDevelop Focus on frameworks or potentially structuresFocus on individuals Rely on their controlInspire trust in individuals Hold short range viewsHave a more extended territory perspectiveAsk ââ¬Ëhowââ¬â¢ and ââ¬Ëwhenââ¬â ¢Ask ââ¬Ëwhatââ¬â¢ and ââ¬Ëwhyââ¬â¢ Keep an eye on the base lineKeep an eye not too far off ImitateOriginate Accept the status quoChallenge it Be an exemplary decent soldierBe his/her own individual Accept realityInvestigate it b) Management includes 5 capacities which are arranging, sorting out, staffing, coordinating and controlling. Arranging â⬠Planning enables the board to intelligently think of various techniques to ensure that the venture finishes in progress. The expression for creating strategies can be for prompt, present moment, medium term and long haul periods. If the board doesn't actualize an arrangement the main arrangement that he can ensure is a horrible showing. Arranging â⬠In request to ensure that the arrangement is a triumph the board need to ensure things inside the organization and the arrangement are appropriately sorted out. This is the place the executives can partition, facilitate and control the assignment and data inside the associatio n. Allocating work and giving authority are 2 significant components of arranging. Staffing â⬠Now that the structure is appropriately assembled, the board needs to have worker's to do the arrangement. This is otherwise called human asset management. In this idea the executives will be dedicated to appropriately procuring, preparing, assessing, and repaying their employee's. Representatives are what give an organization a serious edge. The executives must guarantee that the correct number of and sort of workers are put at the correct spots and at the ideal time when the association needs them. Coordinating â⬠This is the capacity to get worker's to accomplish the objectives of the organization in the best and ideal manner. Driving, rousing, correspondence and coordination are the components that go under directing.Directing is tied in with managing and driving the individuals in an association. Controlling â⬠This is the procedure that guarantees whether the assets are acqui red and utilized proficiently in accomplishing the hierarchical targets. This capacity will be the last assignment that administration will do. This will permit the capacity to check the exhibition of the representative's to ensure it corresponds with the info (plan) and yield (execution). Consequently, that is the reason controlling capacity of the executives is firmly connected with the arranging capacity. ) It is the prerequisite of a group chief to accomplish goals set by the board for a group. Be that as it may, since the group head can't meet these goals all alone, it will be required for the group chief to lead or deal with a group to make progress utilizing the abilities of the group. The teamââ¬â¢s destinations will be those of the group chief. The group will comprise of various people each attempting to accomplish their own targets, in light of each individualââ¬â¢s specific aptitudes, information and ability. This separating into explicit undertakings will add to th e general accomplishment of the targets of the team. With this as a primary concern a group chief must know their staff, however it is similarly significant that the staff know the group head. A pioneer must realize how to manufacture and support such a group. A decent pioneer realizes that when will generally be a pioneer and when to be a supporter. Great pioneers are acceptable devotees when that is what is required. Different aptitudes that the group chief should have are: Integrity. Having solid inward core values that one doesn't settle. It implies regarding others as you would wish to be dealt with. Respectability advances trust, and very little is cultivated without trust.Leading by model. Advancement and vision. Inviting new assignments and better approaches for getting things done. Having an unmistakable thought where their association as well as unit are going in the long haul. Correspondence. Pioneers need to figure out how to be capable in both the correspondence that adv ises and searches out data and the correspondence that associates relationally with others. Having the option to listen well, clarify things plainly, pose inquiries and know about what individuals truly think and feel (not what they may state). Relationships.A pioneer who preferences managing individuals issues, who can start and extend associations with others, has an extraordinary authority advantage. This is a pioneer who can construct a group and accomplish amazing outcomes. This can help with the capacity to persuade others. Getting individuals to do things since they need to and not on the grounds that they are advised to. Influence. The capacity to impact others and cause them to move a specific way is an exceptionally significant ability in initiative. A pioneers capacity to be powerful is legitimately identified with how much individuals trust you and how great your correspondence and connections are.Adaptability. Versatility and adaptability in not being limited by an arra ngement are significant achievement factors. A pioneer must move effectively from one situation (the arrangement) to the following (the arrangement isn't going true to form) and accept them all, in any event, when the conditions are sudden. A decent pioneer needs to grasp change and consider it to be opportunity. Training and self-advancement. Creating others is a significant job for a pioneer. Urging others to extend their capacities and take on extra assignments is a piece of a leaderââ¬â¢s responsibility.Leaders who feel undermined by the abilities of others are for the most part tested here. This harmonizes with being keen on what individuals think and feel. Self-advancement and growing oneââ¬â¢s own abilities rouses trust and regard from the group which likewise goes connected at the hip in creating others. Dynamic. A pioneer must have the option to swim through data, appreciate whatââ¬â¢s applicable, settle on an all around thought about choice, and make a move depend ent on that choice. Settling on choices too rapidly or too gradually will hinder initiative adequacy. Planning.Planning includes making certain presumptions about the future and taking activities in the present to emphatically impact that future. Arranging intends to concentrate all the more deliberately. Albeit significant for direction and center, plans are infrequently inflexible. d) My activity as a Senior Support Worker is to offer help to the Registered Manager and lead a little group of care staff in the everyday running of the unit in accordance with the companyââ¬â¢s goals. We will find what the Black Death is, the place it originated from, and Influence that is had on society. The Black Death was a quick spreading plague that was accounted for on board Genoese vessels toward the beginning of October 1347. Since these vessels were sent pull out to the ocean where each and every individual who experienced these vessels was defiled by a quick spreading plague. Was there any approach to have forestalled this pandemic? Martin, S. , (2001), Black Death, Pocket fundamentals, Harpenden, Great Britain, This book determines what the dark demise is, the point at which it began, and how it spread. I can get a lot of data from this book to assist me with my exploration for my paper. Dates, names of vessels, urban areas, how they devastated the plague, are among a couple of the things that I can gain from this reference. I have always enjoyed the freedom of coming up with stories, making worlds that I wish I could live in, or bringing together thoughts about my own life to come up with a coherent narrative. On the visual arts side, I spent a lot of time doing Blender (a 3D animation program) when I had free time back in high school. For me it was a way for me to take the world that I know, and modify it in a way that made the world truly mine. However, despite my love for writing and 3D animation I believe my primary passion has always been cancer research. This made MIT almost a natural place for me to want to go, but the longer that I am here the more I have become aware that for many visual arts and writing was more than a hobby, it is a passion equivalent to my love for cancer research. As I have heard stories of friends, I have found a problem for incoming freshman that love literature or visual arts is How do I decide between MIT, and an art school? or MIT and a sch ool with a great writing program? So, I decided to grab some friends that I knew had made this decision between MIT and another program, and ask them how they feel now that they are at MIT. (both of these friends are anonymous so if you would like to get in contact with them to ask further questions, please email me and I can try to get you in contact ^_^) Literature When I was young, reading was practically a health hazard. Iâd read anytime and anywhere, despite the immediate perils in my surrounding environment. I distinctly remember my mom rolling her eyes at me every time I walked into a door with my nose in a book. How I didnât break my neck going down stairs in the middle of Emily Windsnap or Maniac Magee or Ramona Quimby is beyond me. Stories were mine to have and hold, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and health, until death do us part. You may now read the book (or this blog post, rather. I donât know. This was a weird reference to make). Fast forward to middle and high school. My favorite authors inspired me to try my hand at writing, and I loved stringing words together. Sentences are compact puzzles with endless solutions and no single right answer. When all the pieces fit, they have rhythm, a flow, an ability to make you think and see and question. I found I loved crafting stories, too â" they were a way to grab handfuls of life and mold the directionless chaos into something meaningful. In high school, I wrote constantly in a red journal. I submitted pieces to my schoolâs literary magazine, later became co-editor-in-chief, and even won a school award for a piece I wrote. Then came time for college. Adults stopped saying, âYou can do everything you put your mind to!â and instead requested that I condense my interests and life goals into a choice of major. I loved writing, but I was also a science nerd (huge surprise, I know). I sent in my applications, heard back from schools, and screamed internally and out loud when I got into MIT. How could I say no? One of the first things I learned as a student here is that you canât be good at/do everything. When youâre young, there are a billion open doors you can walk through and explore, but at a certain point, you have to start closing them â" especially when you have an intense academic workload, run on too little sleep, and must learn to manage your time. Everyone has certain doors, though, that theyâre incapable of shutting. I decided to come to MIT and pursue bioengineering, but I did not want to give up on writing. This mission has been going okay so far. I joined The Tech, MITâs student newspaper. I am now editor of its Campus Life section. I am planning on minoring in writing (either creative or science). I have enjoyed the writing courses Iâve taken so far, and Iâve met many a talented writer here. Just so you know Iâm not sugar coating my experience, here are the truths youâd expect from a school whose STEM reputation is as monolithic as MITâs: there are few undergraduate students who choose to major in writing (MIT offers creative writing, science writing, and digital media majors and minors). There exist students here who belittle the humanities. The atmosphere is very much charged with an enthusiasm for STEM, which may hide the arts communities from public view. And there will be many times when youâll be too busy or tired or stressed to work on anything but your psets. Here are some truths that may surprise you about MIT: for every student who hates the humanities, there are a ton more who appreciate its value and understand its importance. MIT students are not just hardcore STEM nerds â" I am friends with serious athletes, half the people on my floor are super into Dance Troupe, a friend on my floor is learning firespinning, my roommate plays six instruments (and is amazing at all of them, excluding the trumpet which she picked up this year), and so on. And though few undergraduate students choose to major in writing, a community of writers thrives. This community may be smaller than those in other schools, but it is alive and well. MIT has a literary magazine, Rune, a newspaper, a spoken word poetry club, a plethora of writing courses, and superstar professors. Our writing professors, including Junot Diaz and B.D. Colen, are Pulitzer Prize winners, bestselling authors, respected journalists, and more. If you know youâre serious about writing as a life path, I might not advise going to MIT without quite a bit of thought and talking it over with a 21W major. MIT is likely not the best place to be if you know that writing is your dream, but this really depends on you. I have friends who are aspiring writers, and they do not regret their time here. I personally write and read less now, and it is difficult to do other things I enjoy during weeks when I donât seem to have any free time. However, for those who are passionate about STEM and writing/the arts in equal measure, it is possible to do both at MIT. It will take energy, work, and introspection about what you want to prioritize in your life, but these are necessary ingredients for the pursuit of just about anything. Hereâs one final anecdote: the other day, I attended the Ilona Karmel writing prize awards dinner. In a cozy room tucked away in building 14E, students crammed around couches and tables with plates of Indian food and slices of cake (which was modeled after Margaret Atwoodâs typewriter! I almost died when I saw it). The room was buzzing with conversation and energy and anticipation, and sitting in that room, I felt so grateful for this hidden gem of MITâs population. Everyone there shared my love for words, and I didnât feel out of place as someone whoâd previously run into doors with a face full of book. From the outside looking in â" and even from the inside â" MIT can be an intimidating place for aspiring writers. However, if you know there are some doors you just canât close, you may be pleasantly surprised by what you find when you read between the lines. Visual Arts To be honest, I was pretty scared to write this blog post. So much so, that I managed to put 3 weeks between when Ben asked me to write one, and when I actually made a blank google doc. I guess I have been afraid that when I actually let loose and press brains against paper, the resulting imprint would be something unhappy and morbid. Okay letâs start over: -Hi! Iâm about to talk a lot about myself, and hopefully conclude with something relevant to you. -I am course 6-3 (computer science major for those of you yet to be indoctrinated into the Institutes habit of numbering everything). My favorite living thing in the world is my dog Bean/Dou Dou (sorry everyone else). -I would like to be a visual development artist someday. What is a visual development artist? S/he is the person who decides what the world of a movie, game, or tv show will look like before it is actually produced. -(Hereâs some awesome concept art: Lilo and Stitch, Tangled,Zootopia, emperorâs new groove, star wars, star wars, star wars, harry potter, guild wars 2, http://www.simonstalenhag.se/, moana) -Really, itâs the coolest job in the world for people who like to draw, read, and daydream. (a.k.a. me) However-in-general-as-a-person-overall. I also enjoy solving problems and building things; in high school I was really into science olympiad, and at one point decided I loved ecology/biology after following a grad student around an evolution lab at U Chicago for a summer. Iâve always counted myself amongst the nerd crowd growing up, and never imagined I would be anything else than someone that builds things. This changed when, as a junior in high school, I had the fortune to be able to take a summer art course on visual development; I spent 4 weeks developing a concept project built around a story I wrote, for which I designed characters, environments, props, vehicles, storyboards. It is hard for me to state how much that experience meant to me. It was as if I had been walking on my hands and writing with my feet my entire life, and someone came over and said âHey, why donât you try walking upside down?â And everything felt like it was meant to work that way. I tried to get back into academics the semester after that summer, but everything felt flat and uninteresting; I ended up spending a lot of time out of school that year, drawing things instead, trying to make a portfolio that would get me into a concept art/industrial design program that my parents would accept. I dropped all of my clubs; I quit science olympiad, science fair, etc etc and almost dropped out of honors classes t o save time until my counselor refused to sign the form. Somewhere in between this, I got into MIT. My dad cried. To art school, I got rejected once (I applied secretly and was going to ask my parents if I could graduate high school early), and accepted once (during the normal application cycle). I cried. The next fall, I came to MIT; I chose the dorm Senior House, where there are a lot musicians and artists, and was temped there during REX (dorm exploration week). I FYREâd into Burton-Conner after REX ended. I told everyone it was because I wanted to live somewhere quieter, but it was really because I felt like I had to give up art if I was to take on MIT, and there were too many people there that I vibed with too hard. (Burton-Connerâs great and I love it and the massive family Iâve accumulated there, donât get me wrong) I spent most of freshman year trying to be an MIT student â" or a least what I thought an MIT student should be. I tried to get internships, I took many course 6 classes, I tried to do too many things and burned out a bit, and I almost transferred to art school again; I ended up not because of a mix up in phone calls (thatâs what I told myself and everyone else. It was really because I was still scared to do something I thought no one else was doing). This continued to the first half of sophomore year (last semester); I interviewed at a gajillion tech companies with my heart half into it, before landing what would be considered a very decent position, at a very decent software company, with very decent compensation for next summer. Yet, for the rest of the semester, I found myself constantly, aimlessly logging onto job boards and filling out design applications that I knew I wouldnât get. I went to Blizzardâs on campus interviews with a portfolio of concept art, even knowing there would only be technical interviewers coming. I would spend a semester unconsciously looking for a way out of this very decent, very respectable and favorable situation, in as much denial as I could muster. Then this spring, a.k.a. right now; I took on a bunch of projects that were art and computer science; I became AR lead of the mural project in the tunnels, and began a UROP in the Media Lab where I got to do my own AR art project. One day, the supervisor for the internship I was supposed to do this summer emailed me this: âOur internship program this summer has been unfortunately canceled due to reorganization of the companyâ. I couldnât feel anything but relieved. That was when I finally turned my head around, and looked up to confront the colossus of discontent that had been trailing behind me, dragging at my feet, ever since I got on campus. Throughout all of this I kept feeling that I should be happy despite everything; I am at the coolest place in the world with access to so many cool projects why canât I just be enjoying this and diving in, instead of dithering over something I can do later? But the truth is, that just caught me up more beating myself up for not enjoying something I âshouldâ be enjoying. I think I knew from the beginning that I wanted to go to art school; but I was scared that if I went and it wasnât what I thought it would be, I would have no way to get back to the âright wayâ of doing things (getting an undergrad degree, doing something technical and high paying in a respectable job). I also just never heard the words âI think you should go to art school instead of MITâ. My art teacher, the mentor I found in the visual development course, my parents, friends, etc all said otherwise; only one friend told me; hey I think you should just go to art school seeing as youâre dithering so much over something as big at MIT clearly you donât particularly want to go. But everyone else said, âYouâll never run into something like MIT again; you can always go back to artâ. And having been here for two years, I think that I have finally accepted that I should have gone to art school; I have come to terms with the fact that I donât like computer science that much, I donât like engineering that much, but that thatâs okay. Thereâs nothing wrong with me for feeling that way. This doesnât sound like such a big realization, but somehow it took me 2 years of feeling inadequate and wrong before I finally got to it. So to people out here who are in environments or situations where you have to choose between 2 things, where one is unequivocally objectively better than the other, but you canât manage to feel that way: your feelings matter more than whatâs better. Not equal, not less; it matters more, because for the rest of your life, YOU will be in control of where your life goes. All that matters is how you feel about what you do. Doing what youâre supposed to do, so that your life is something that everyone around you wants that wonât bring y ou happiness. Doing things that make you happy brings you happiness. (But also, if that choice isnât something within your reach right now, I also do want to let you know it is possible to be happy here as an artist. For me, because I am interested in purely art in particular, and have neither interest in new media and conceptual art nor all the theory based design that is around here nor building software, it was a much longer path getting there. But I have found that a lot of the Virtual and Augmented/Mixed Reality projects going on are really interesting. Making games is also really fun, if anyone reading this who is interested in cs and art hasnât already, try making something in Unity! Or Processing! Or Blender! Computer graphics is also a really good field to get into right now. This guy also has the most inspiring and beautifully immersive computer science/art projects I have seen. All of his work is amazing, but especially check out way to go, reflektor, sprawl II, neon bible. My personal fave is blabla. That said, art here is very much de sign. All of the computer graphics classes here will teach you technical skills how to build things, not what or why. I feel like I have not used my idea-making muscles for coursework in a long time. If you want to be an animator/concept artist/graphic designer/industrial designer go for it as much as you can. Take it from me, someone who didnât.) Human trafficking has become an international crime, affecting the lives of men, women, and children. There are several motives for human trafficking, but in Nepal, trafficking is mainly concentrated on domestic work and prostitution. While most people wouldnââ¬â¢t associate disease and post-traumatic stress disorder with victims of human trafficking, in reality, it tragically affects the lives of many women. Human trafficking exploits women in ways that include forced labor, slavery, servitude, sexual exploitation, or removal of human organs. In Nepalâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦These women and young girls not only suffer from being taken away from their families, but also dealing with being beaten, sexually abused, but also undergo mental strain and illness. The women who are trafficked suffer from a great deal of psychological abuse, leading to many mental health issues. In Cathy Zimmerman, Mazeda Hossain, and Charlotte Wattââ¬â¢s article, the authors describe different factors that lead to mental health issues in survivors. Traffickers use forms of intimidations to coerce women to obey and refrain from seeking rescue by threatening their loved ones and using blackmail. Because the women are being sold to different people constantly, their surroundings change uncontrollably, and often end up in unsafe environments. Due to these drastic changes and living in constant fear has lead to post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), which can cause sleep issues, nightmares, memory loss, violent outbursts, and other aggressive behavior. Along with PTSD, many survivors experience signs of depression, leading to self-harm, and even suicide. ââ¬Å"17% of trafficked women who had worked as sex workers, scored over the cut-off point of measurement f or PTSD and 19% were over the cut-off on the depression scaleâ⬠(Mental health of female survivors of human trafficking in yolandaedwards192http://www.blogger.com/profile/18230721373980199964noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6403820131350011494.post-50291073233165326042020-05-12T13:33:00.001-07:002020-05-12T13:33:03.624-07:00The Internet Of Things Is Defined - 1705 Words Introduction The internet of things is defined as the development of the internet where every object used in daily activities has a connection to the internet allowing these things to either send or even receive data. These objects would be equipped with sensors that gauge the surrounding parameters including brightness or distance and transmit this data to the internet for use in various applications. For instance, eCLOUD is a form of artwork that was done by Aaron Koblin, Nik Goods and Nik Hafermaas and it is located in the San Jose Airport. It is made from various Polycarbonate tiles that ranges from transparent and the opaque states. The states are controlled by weather in various National ocean and atmospheric locations around the globe. Data collected is then used to enhance simulations that represent the weather in various locations by ensuring that these tiles are turned on and off in a given pattern. These simulations are seen within the available cloud sculpture and on a dynamic displa y that has been placed in the airportââ¬â¢s terminal. The internet of things has primarily made it into various design circles in which the main concern is the users and the application areas more than the underlying technical solutions. Should the death penalty be repealed and replaced with life imprisonment without possibility of parole? California voters on Tuesday rejected a ballot measure that would have repealed the stateââ¬â¢s death penalty. Supporters against Prop 34 claim that California is broke and taxpayers would pay at least $50,000 annually, giving lifetime healthcare and housing to killers who tortured, raped, and murdered children, cops, mothers and fathers. We will write a custom essay sample on Prop 34: the Death Penalty or any similar topic only for you Order Now A yes on Prop. 4 states that no offenders would be sentenced to death under state law. Offenders who are currently under a sentence of death would be resentenced to life without the possibility of parole. The state would provide a total of $100 million in grants to local law enforcement agencies over the next four years. I strongly agree with a vote yes on Prop. 34. The death penalty isnââ¬â¢t an effective way to prevent or reduce a crime. Not only does this not prevent future crimes and murders, but sometimes the death penalty is applied unfairly to innocent people. Evidence has shown that more than 100 innocent people have been sentenced to death in the United States and some have been executed. Prop. 34 means that the state of California will never execute an innocent person. Franky Carrillo was 16 when he was arrested and wrongly convicted of murder in Los Angeles; it took 20 years to show his innocence. Judge LaDoris Cordell, from Santa Clara said ââ¬Å"If someoneââ¬â¢s executed and later found innocent, we canââ¬â¢t go back. â⬠I agree with this judge because what if later we find evidence that the offender is innocent there no way we can bring someone back to life. So then again who has the right to take the life of a human, when God is the one who decides when our time on earth has come to an end. Life without parole would be less expensive than the death penalty. Californiaââ¬â¢s death penalty is too costly and is hardly used. Only 13 people have been executed since 1967 and no one since 2006. Prisoners are put to death row but die of old age before they make it to there punishment. We waste millions of tax dollars on special housing for these inmates, when they just sit around doing nothing. To me it makes more sense to keep a killer in a prison for the rest of his/her life until they die. An impartial study found California will save nearly $1 billion in five years if we replace the death penalty with life in prison without possibility of parole. The savings would come from eliminating lawyersââ¬â¢ fees and special death row housing. California is broke and Prop. 34 will save us money. We all know that killing another person is the most evil crime that one can commit. But it seems that our government is being hypocritical when it states that capital punishment is allowable because, after all, the criminal did murder an innocent victim, and therefore should be killed. This is known as the ââ¬Å"eye for an eye, and tooth for a tooth theory. â⬠Of course, if we used this system all the time, there would be no need for laws. The majority of countries in Western Europe, North America and South have abandoned capital punishment. Why is it that the United States remains a user of capital punishment? The death penalty is the ultimate cruel, inhuman and degrading punishment. It denies criminals their natural born right to life. The death penalty should be abolished because it has never been shown to lower crime rates or stop serial killers from killing. It costs far more to execute a person than to keep him or her in prison for life. Capital punishment is against the humanity, we can find other alternatives to it. As Voltaire once said, ââ¬Å"It is better to risk saving a guilty man than to condemn an innocent one. â⬠How to cite Prop 34: the Death Penalty, Essay examples yolandaedwards192http://www.blogger.com/profile/18230721373980199964noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6403820131350011494.post-25404640229044019592020-05-02T14:31:00.001-07:002020-05-02T14:31:03.109-07:00Guest Tek Interactive Entertainment Ltd â⬠Free Samples to Students Question: Discuss about the Guest Tek Interactive Entertainment Ltd. The findings will be associated with the process of observing as well as improving the existing procedures or to do the identification of the new processes for improving the operations. This will be including the workflow processes, cost effectiveness relating to products as well as services, issues relating to customer services, procedures relating to check-in and check-out, staff effectiveness as well as training requirements (El Haddad 2015). Certain issues were identified that were the reasons for shortfall during task observation. These are the issues relating to customer services as well as issues relating to staff effectiveness as well as training requirements. The customer service issues are relating to poor response to information request, lack of communication, repeated complaints regarding the same food items (Farzan 2015). The issues relating to staff effectiveness as well as training requirements will be including inefficient training of staffs regarding skills related with client servicing, underdevelopment as well as limited using of disciplinary processes, not reviewing the processes relating to the recruitment as well as selection. In respect of issues relating to customer services, certain strategies could be implemented for overcoming the shortfalls that have been identified such as retraining staffs as to how to provide responses to the requests of the customers, setting procedures for reducing the wait-time, training staffs in communication skills so that they can communicate in an effective manner with the customers. Potential cost factors for the suggested procedure In respect of the physical resources, Planning the use of physical resources Obtaining physical resources Ensuring the availability of physical resources Monitorin the use of physical resources In respect of the human resources, Planning the use of human resources Obtaining human resources Ensuring the availability of human resources Monitorin the use of human resources According to me, the strategies that have been implemented regarding the operation plan are considerd being very much viable because this will help in overcoming the issues relating to staff effectiveness as well as training requirements and also, the issues relating to customer services. The different cost factors have been cited in this regard. I do not think, there would be a more cost effective option. Conclusion To conclude, it can be stated that there has been the development of an organizational plan, then there has been the outlining of the processes as well as procedures that will be used for planning as well as managing the required physical as well as human resources. There has been the observation of operational procedure that have been related with the workflow processes. Then there has been the development of the strategies that has been implemented to overcome the shortfalls that have been identified. Reference El Haddad, R., 2015. The prenatal development stages outline the growth of the child and give a clearer picture of the development of the child in the womb. The course of this prenatal development is divided into three main periods:à germinal, embryonic, and fetal. The germinal/conception stage begins with conception, occurs within the first 2 weeks. This journey begins when the sperm and egg cell unite in one of the two fallopian tubes. The fertilized egg, known as a zygote, then moves toward the uterus, a journey that can take up to a week to complete. Cell division beginsà and continues rapidly forming a blastocyst. Finally, the blastocyst arrives at the uterus and attached to the uterine wall, a process known as implantation. The conception stage is basically the preparatory and preliminary process of prenatal development that readies and prepares the body for the impending pregnancy. Once implantation has occur the the blastocyst is develops into an embryo. This second stage, theà embryonic periodà occurs 2-8 weeks after conception. This is referred as the most important stage of prenatal devllopment as the foundational development of the embryo begins here. During this period, the rate of cell division increases, support systems for the cells form, and organs appear. The mass of cells attached to the uterine wall forms two layers and is now called the embryo. Theà inner layer of cells of the embryo is the endodermà which develops into digestive and respiratory systems. The middle layer known as theà mesoderm will develop into the circulatory system, bones, muscle, excretory system, and reproductive system. By the 8th week teeth and intestines start the form as well. From the 11th week onwards, the child is called a fetus, and this stage is the last of the prenatal development timeline. This stage culminates in the birth of the child. Development of the fetus continues rapidly throughout most of this period. The fetus develops hair, nails, vocal cords, genitals, hardened bones, and a functioning liver and kidneys. By about the 20th week fat starts accumulating under the skin, the heart starts pumping more amounts of blood each day, and the baby also starts experiencing hiccups. The rate of development continues slowly as other body systems such as ligaments, brain and eyes continue developing. Up to the 40th week, the main task is the formation of the lungs, as most other body parts and organs are ready. The child starts developing necessary immunities, and also starts fattening up to face the outer environment. By about the 39th week, the child will be ready to be born into this world. During pregnancy there are 3 trimesters. A trimester is referred to as a three months period. Most commonly, the first trimester is defined as from conception through week 14. The second trimester is from week 14 through week 28. And the third trimester is from week 28 through labor and deliver, which varies considerably but averages at week 40. yolandaedwards192http://www.blogger.com/profile/18230721373980199964noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6403820131350011494.post-33896192940301814312020-03-06T04:06:00.001-08:002020-03-06T04:06:03.751-08:00Word Choice All vs. All OfWord Choice All vs. All Of Word Choice: All vs. All Of For such a short word, ââ¬Å"allâ⬠can be complicated. It certainly has many uses! Here, though, weââ¬â¢re looking at one thing in particular: when to use ââ¬Å"all ofâ⬠rather than ââ¬Å"allâ⬠by itself. Make sure you can avoid errors when using these terms by checking out our guide below. When to Use ââ¬Å"All Ofâ⬠The sense of ââ¬Å"allâ⬠that applies here is its use as a determiner (or a predeterminer when it comes before another determiner). This means using ââ¬Å"allâ⬠to indicate how much of something weââ¬â¢re discussing. For example, ââ¬Å"all studentsâ⬠means ââ¬Å"every single student,â⬠not just some of them. As a rule of thumb, we use ââ¬Å"all ofâ⬠when ââ¬Å"allâ⬠is a determiner and the next word in the sentence is a pronoun. When this is a personal pronoun (e.g., me, you, us, them) or a relative pronoun (e.g., whom, which), we need to ââ¬Å"ofâ⬠to make the sentence grammatical. For example: All of you were late to class. âÅ"â All you were late to class. âÅ"â" These are my students, all of whom were late. âÅ"â These are my students, all whom were late. âÅ"â" With demonstrative pronouns (e.g., this, these, those), the ââ¬Å"ofâ⬠is optional: All of these students were late. âÅ"â All these students were late. âÅ"â We can also include ââ¬Å"ofâ⬠before a noun phrase that begins with a determiner, such as the definite article (i.e., the) or a possessive pronoun (e.g., my, his, her, your, our, their). For instance: All of the students overslept. âÅ"â All the students overslept. âÅ"â Some style guides recommend leaving out ââ¬Å"ofâ⬠when it is optional. This will make a sentence more concise, but it is ultimately up to you. When to Use ââ¬Å"Allâ⬠By Itself So when do we need to use ââ¬Å"allâ⬠by itself? As mentioned, you can do this when the next word is a pronoun or determiner. But there are situations when adding the ââ¬Å"ofâ⬠is not an option. These are: When ââ¬Å"allâ⬠comes before a noun referring to an entire class of things. When ââ¬Å"allâ⬠is used before an uncountable noun without a determiner (i.e., a noun with no plural form without a word like ââ¬Å"theâ⬠or ââ¬Å"myâ⬠in front). In the case of an plural noun that refers to an entire class, we would write: All cats are lazy. âÅ"â All of cats are lazy. âÅ"â" Here, we use ââ¬Å"allâ⬠without ââ¬Å"ofâ⬠because ââ¬Å"catsâ⬠refers to every possible feline, not a specific group of cats. And we would do the same if ââ¬Å"allâ⬠came before an uncountable noun: All water is wet. âÅ"â All of water is wet. âÅ"â" In both cases, the ââ¬Å"ofâ⬠is not just unnecessary; it is grammatically incorrect. ââ¬Å"Allâ⬠as a Pronoun We mentioned above that ââ¬Å"allâ⬠is always followed by ââ¬Å"ofâ⬠when the next word is a personal or relative pronoun. This only applies when ââ¬Å"allâ⬠is a determiner. You will also see ââ¬Å"allâ⬠used as a pronoun meaning ââ¬Å"everyone,â⬠ââ¬Å"everything,â⬠or ââ¬Å"the only thing.â⬠And when ââ¬Å"allâ⬠is a pronoun, it can be combined with other pronouns without using ââ¬Å"ofâ⬠: This letter is for all whom it may concern. âÅ"â All you need is love. âÅ"â These sentences are both fine as ââ¬Å"allâ⬠is used as a pronoun, not a determiner. Summary: All or All Of? When deciding whether to write ââ¬Å"allâ⬠or ââ¬Å"all of,â⬠keep the following in mind: Use all of when the next word is a personal or relative pronoun. You can use either all or all of when the next word in the sentence is either a demonstrative pronoun or a noun phrase that begins with a determiner. Use all by itself when the next word in the sentence is a plural noun that refers to an entire class of things or an uncountable noun. And donââ¬â¢t forget to have your writing proofread! The main aims of this research study were to evaluate student nursesââ¬â¢ perceptions of hand hygiene practice compliance in order to explore ways of effectively incorporating best practice standards of hand hygiene compliance into nursing school curricula and training programmes. The impetus for this study was the documentation of increased incidence of health-care associated infections (HCAIs) and data that suggest that there are generally poor compliance rates for hand hygiene among healthcare workers (Creedon 2005). The rationale for the increased attention to hygiene compliance is that greater attention to hand hygiene practices among nurses, doctors and other healthcare workers may produce a decrease in the overall incidence of HCAIs among patients (Boyce & Pittet 2002). This is a very serious problem as noscomial infections are associated with higher mortality rates in critically ill patients, increased hospital stays and excessive antibiotic usage, all of which represent unwanted complications in patient care. There are a number of excellent search engines that would be relevant to this type of search. These include the Cochrane Library Online, which is a website containing journal articles and research findings designed to meet the needs of nursing professionals. Another excellent website is the Centers for Disease Control website (CDC), a USA based database that contains the results of the latest research on infectious disease, and evidence-based practice research findings. Pubmed/medline is an online database that can be used in a search by topic mode to obtain the latest journal research articles on this subject. The rationale for this research study involving nursing studentsââ¬â¢ perceptions of hand hygiene compliance was the yolandaedwards192http://www.blogger.com/profile/18230721373980199964noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6403820131350011494.post-35949566903657950852020-02-04T00:06:00.001-08:002020-02-04T00:06:03.688-08:00MOZARTS REQUIEM Term Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1500 wordsMOZARTS REQUIEM - Term Paper Example He started composing music from the age of five and also played before the royalty. He travelled widely, with a penchant for performing. He had also performed before the European royalty at a very early age. There was always a search for a better position, leading him to change places and compos with a lot of regularity. While on a visit to Vienna in the year 1781, he faced dismissal from the position at Salzburg. He stayed on at Vienna, but the financial security was much lesser. The final years in Vienna were extremely productive, with the composition of a number of pieces. The part that we would concentrate on is the Requiem. It was one of his most important works, but was left in an unfinished state for most part. The situation that led to his death has been a subject of folklore, with a number of interpretations doing the rounds. Mozart learned the art from a lot of the other musicians, with the compositions straddling both worlds. Some of the compositions are very light in the constitution, while some of the others are extremely dark. The body of his work is very elaborate, with over six hundred pieces, and many of them have been taken as the best in symphony, concert ante and other forms of music. He had been an inspiration to some of the other leading lights, including Beethoven; who was inspired by him. He was the youngest one among seven, children; five of whom had died in infancy. His father, Leopold Mozart was a minor composer in the court of the Count of Salzburg. It can be noted that Leopold was a devoted teacher to his son, the young Mozart. It can be also said, that Mozart wanted to progress beyond the teaching given by his father. Alongside conventional music, he also taught Mozart academic subjects. He and his sister were considered to be child prodigies. All of the concerts began with the concerts at Munich, going on to the courts of Vienna and Prague. The tour lasted for almost three and a half years, ending through the cities of Zurich. Moz art was influenced by a number of composers during that period. Some of the most famous names include the individuals like Bach. The trips of the family were often done in the conditions, which were not conducive for travel. In the year 1769, Mozart and his father again left for travel, which took them through many places. They finished the travel by the year 1771. Leopold, his father had hoped for some kind of appointment in the courts of Italy, but it never materialized. In the year 1777, Mozart resigned from the position at Salzburg, and went in to travel in different parts of Europe like Munich and Paris. Mozart fell ill in the year 1791 during the premier of an opera, which was written as a part of the responsibilities for the emperorââ¬â¢s coronation. But, he kept on performing most of the functions, and also had the premiere of the play. The deterioration of health became more evident on the 20th November of same year, making him bedridden. He started to suffer from pain, vomiting and swelling in the joints. Mozart was looked after in the final times by his wife and her sister. He was also attended by the family doctor Thomas Franz Closset. During that period, he was occupied with the creation of Requiem, which was the last of his seminal works. This is one of the reasons, why it has been chosen for writing this paper. THE REQUIEM The Requiem written by Mozart was one of the finest works by the composer. The fact that it was written during the final years of his life, further makes it more important. It was left in an unfinished state by the composer, and was finished after the death of the composer on December 5. Wales was part of the Roman Empire for over 300 years. Roman law was unlike the oral culture that Wales possessed before they arrived, as the Roman law was written enabling discipline, where everyone lived and was punished by all the same rules, so not arbitrary. The procedure of a trial differed somewhat under the Republic and under the Empire. In Republican times justice was administered in accordance with the formulary system named from the formula which was drafted by the magistrate responsible for the administration of justice in the city. Any citizen could press charges against another through a patronus acting as his advocate. The charge had to be in inscriptione (in writing), signed by both delator and subscriptores (accuser and witnesses) and delivered to the praetor (judge). Praetores were in charge of the law courts and presided over the quaestiones (jurors). The accused had to be present at the nominis delatio (making a formal charge). The delator and the subscriptores swore oaths that they would not bring false witness and penalties were given against the delator, if himself or his witnesses were later to have been found to have lied. All witnesses could be questioned and subjected to speeches attacking their credibility. Rules for permitting evidence would seem to us to have been very negligent, and the court considered the written word or spoken word as legally binding. To decide the vote, each juror in secret erased a C (Condemno) or an A (Absolvo) from a pre-marked tablet, the praetor (judge) then announced the jurys decision. Because it was easy to bring suit against another person, there were indeed many lawsuits, as people were enticed by the material rewards if a suit were won. If the accuser won his case, a praemium was given to him. But if he lost, he was deemed to have committed a calumnia (false accusation) or a praevaricatio (collusion, or conspiracy to prosecute falsely) and was fined. If a criminal was caught red-handed or confessed the deed, punishment was inflicted without trial. If he claimed innocence and was a reputable citizen, trial was held before the praetor; otherwise, he was tried in front of a triumvir. In both instances, an advisory commission (consilium) was called to determine the question of guilt. And in either case, the punishment, personally was severe. Due to the growth of the Empire trial procedures changed somewhat and a new system was created, known as cognitio. It involved ââ¬Å"ligigation being heard and decided by the provincial governor or his nominee, the iudex pedaneurs.â⬠Two appeals were to be allowed in every case, a principle which is still followed in civil law today and has even influenced the structure of appeals in the UK in recent centuries. (Legal history of wales book) The first step was the postulatio or application for a hearing; then, the nominis delatio, the formal charge by a delator with his subscriptores present; the consuls next summoned the senate to determine if charges should be heard as one charge or should be divided; next was the inquisitio, in which evidence was heard; debate followed and speeches were limited by a water clock then finally a vote on the verdict. The praetors and propraetors (governors) published a list of principles and formulae of their practices in the form of edicts at the beginning of each term. Although each could effectively alter the formulae, in general the list remained the same. For example ââ¬Å"one might legally kill to defend oneself,â⬠this is still recognised by the modern laws of today. The judge was bound to follow the opinion of the jurists where they were agreed on a point of law, but if there was disagreement, the judge was free to decide the point of law as he saw fit (book). The views of the jurists would be relied upon as legal authority Before 212AD the Britons had the status of foreigners or peregrines and lived under a separate law to the Romans. The 3 laws under the Institutes of Gaius were: Ius civile ââ¬â laws for citizens Ius gentium ââ¬â laws for all nations (e.g. prohibition of murder) Ius naturale ââ¬â natures laws (e.g. brothers forbidden from marrying their sisters, men forbidden from marrying a cow) The year 212 AD was very significant as it enabled every free person in Britain to automatically achieve Roman citizenship. This allowed the Britons to be classed as citizens enabling to enjoy all the benefits, the right to live by Roman Law (ius civile) and acquire the protection of the law. Following 212 AD the Britons lived by Roman law within the Roman Empire for almost two hundred years, enabling a significant legal development of the native people. An example can be shown by how the welsh embraced and so faithfully maintained the Christian religion and the legal order of the church itself was grounded and remained grounded in principles derived from Roman Law. This is represented by the church saying ââ¬Å"ecclesia vivit lege romana,â⬠the church lives by Roman law. Roman citizenship is generally described as an combination of three private law and two public law rights. In public law, citizens had the right to vote in the legislative assemblies ââ¬â suffragium, also the right to stand for certain public offernces ius honorum. In private law, the citizen had the right to trade using roman law contracts, the right of commercium, had the capacity to contract a roman law marriage, conubium, and was able to make, witness and benefit under a roman law will, testamenti factio. Sources of the Roman Law Emperors edicts Responsa prudentium ââ¬â the works of the learned jurists ââ¬â their writings. The jurists expressed the values of the law and decided that the law is not arbitrary and must conform with standards of justice. The jurist Ulpian wrote, ââ¬Å"Justice is the constant and perpetual wish to give every one their dueâ⬠The jurists were an important professional class who practised their skills independently of those who argued cases before the law courts as jurists concentrated on jurisprudence. Jurisprudence was to be defined by the jurist Ulpian ââ¬Å"as the knowledge of things human and divine, the source of what was just and unjust.â⬠Ulpian also defined justice as ââ¬Å"the constant and perpetual wish to give to everyone their dueâ⬠This definition underlies the roman practice of allowing slaves and peregrines to earn freedom and citizenship by good works. The writings of the jurists were however a source of law in their own right. ââ¬Å"It is significant that this source of law, quite foreign to the later common law of England, was to have its counterpart in the high respect accorded to jurists in the native welsh laws.â⬠The father as a parent was important under roman family law, as they saw the family unit a legal unit and thought it was important to protect. In roman law the family unit is greater and more powerful than the common law today. The head of the family was usually the father and was known as the paterfamilias. Roman Law was ahead of its time in terms of equality for example with Property Law, When property was inherited it was split between all children, not discriminatory like most cultures e.g. sex/race discrimination. So adopted child has the same status and right as a natural child. Concept of anybody ââ¬â any country, had black generals, by your behaviour you became a roman. Shows they were ahead of their time in concept of equality. 3) For perhaps a thousand years the native law of wales has been known as the law of hywel or cyfraith hywel in welsh or lex hoeli in medieval latin ââ¬â from law of hywel dda. Cyfraith Hywel, the law of Hywel, was the name by which their native law was known to the Welsh in medieval times. The law of Hywel lost its primacy after the conquest of Wales by Edward I and the passing of the Statute of Wales in 1284, but it remained an important ingredient of the law administered in Wales until the Act of Union in 1536 His reign was a peaceful one. Hywel was in a position to promote reform and uniformity in Welsh law. The law of Hywel was based on tradition rather than king-made, and is believed to have been adapted from existing laws. Some aspects probably predated his lifetime. The law did not overly stress the power of the crown, but mostly aimed to protect the people of Wales. The native laws were the recorded customs of the people, which is distinguished from Roman Law (the laws of the Emperor) and Canon Law (the laws of the Church. One advantage which Welsh law enjoyed in the political storms of the thirteenth century was that it had written form. Already in the twelfth century it was felt to be an embarrassment if law remained unwritten. Roman law was embodied in texts, and with the great legal revival of the eleventh and twelfth centuries it was felt that any law worthy of the name should be written. Hywel ddaââ¬â¢s objectives was to examine the law, through this to validate and amend the current laws at this time, even introduce and remove laws, promoting a unified concept of Welsh law For centuries to come, living under the Law of Hywel would be one of the definitions of the Welsh people. There was a distinction between south and north wales Title/role Rome Medival welsh law Judge/presider Praetor or magistrate Elected Has consilium of three legal experts to consult In south wales, local lord would be the judge, with the advise of a lawyer, and the church would have its own courts for ecclesiastical matters. North Wales, a professional judge decided cases.. Roman influence ââ¬â law reporting, use of formula Jury Quaestiones 32 to 75 jurors, depending on type of case Chosen from album judicum, list of men of senatorial or equites class Verdict decided by majority vote Usually 12 jurors Selected from a panel of citizens Individually examined, accepted, or rejected by prosecution and defense Verdict usually must be unanimous Verdict C = condemno, A = absolvo By secret ballot Result announced by praetor Guilty or not guilty By unanimous decision but each jurors vote can be polled in open court Decision read aloud by judge Prosecutor Accusator Private citizen Public official elected or appointed Defense attorney Patronus or advocatus May not accept money, although favors allowed Professional lawyer Accepts retainer or fee or works pro bono publico Defendant Reus Innocent until proven guilty Kept under house arrest or imprisoned until trial Usually in private home Innocent until proven guilty Imprisoned or free on bail or own word until trial Witnesses Subscriptores, required by magistrates subpoena Subpoena can be issued Clerks Scribae to record events Recorder/stenographer Makes word-for-word transcript of proceedings (required in event of appeal) The lawbooks do mention some practices which are confined to particular parts of wales, but we shall see that their compliers felt quite free to draw their material from any part of wales with the assurance that it was good law for any other part. ââ¬âmaybe from book Welsh Medieval Law contains many similarities to the Roman Law that came before it. An example of this is clearly shown with the law of marriage. Both traditions were contracted informally, without ant ceremony, the mutual intention of the couple to live together as man and wife being sufficient. Boys had to be of the age fourteen and girls twelve, but the girl could not bear children until 14 and not after 40 years of age, this is developed from the same principle as Roman Law. In roman law didnââ¬â¢t discriminate between married and cohabiting couples. Especially in context of children. Status of illegitimate children is still a controversial issue today. Married women held their own property (but not land) and although came under the protection of their husbands, had rights as members of their own family. The wife would be granted a dowry by her own family, her gwaddol and she would be given a share of her husbands property, her agweddi. The husband giving wife agweddi depending on how you analyse it, as looking at it from as modern day viewpoint then it appears discriminatory. But back in the period of Hywel Dda the elements of welsh law did protect women, even though it was still a male dominated world the women had a far better status than the laws of England at the time provided for them. After the consummation of the marriage, the wifeââ¬â¢s husband would give her a gift known as the cowyll and would also pay her arglwydd an amobr, a payment for taking her virginity. The church began to increase its powers with the law making decisions, and set out prohibited degrees of marriage, and objected to marriage as far as fifth cousins. The welsh did not agree with this and so were in constant breach of this canon law. However the Romans had a different viewpoint and allowed 2nd cousins to marry which was the same line the Welsh followed. The Welsh law on marital separation was also similar To Roman Law, if the marriage was dissolved within the first seven years then the wife kept the bounty that she had received at the time of the marriage. If the marriage was dissolved after seven years, the matrimonial property split according to the rules laid out. The rights of the parties also depended on whether the repudiation was with cause. A man could repudiate his marriage if his wife was immoral after marriage, had lost her virginity before marriage, or if there was an underpayment of gwaddol by her own family. A women could do the same if her husband had committed three adulteries, was impotent, had bad breath, or if he introduced a concubine? To the family home. With regards to Roman law marriage would be terminated if either party repudiated the other (repudium) or both agreed that the marriage was at an end (divortium). The position of women under welsh law differed significantly to that of their Norman-English contempories. Women remained independent and not considered to be the property of father or husband in the same way. The welsh lawbooks have a combination of crudity and sophistication in the texts, this can be seen on the law of women. Welsh law showed its equitable and just side by not recognising any distinction between children born within wedlock and those born outside. This was important when determining liability for compensation in the event of commission of wrongs by or towards the child. I will now look at land law where the uchelwyr enjoyed land rights collectively, with the penteulu, the head of the household nominally in charge. The name for this family holding was gwely, the soms would inherit jointly in equal and individual shares for four generations. However when the father died the property was inherited by the sons only. [I think roman law was more equality based]. Land could not be taken forcibly from lawful owner which is based on roman law. With regards with property other than land, other property was inherited by all the children in accordance with the law. The wife kept half of her husbands property and the remainder of the land was split with sons taking equally and then finally daughters taking half of that which the sons received. However in certain parts of South Wales, the Roman influence ensured that daughters inherited in equal shares with the sons. With roman law once the paterfamilias died the family inherited it as a group a unit. In order to split the property between themselves as individuals they had to do so by initiating a procedure an action familiae erciscundae. Otherwise they could continue to hold the property collectively in a consortium. Water, air and land were open to all, and unoccupied land could be possessed and later owned, if it had been in uninterrupted possession for four generations or more, this also resembles roman law of setting limitation periods for the highly valued land. Childless couples can adopt children and adopted child has same rights as natural child. Even if the father then remarries and has children, then the adopted child is still the first child and the next in line of the paterfamilias. Unjust roman laws ââ¬â being able to discard children who were unwanted (as in with disabilities) but they didnââ¬â¢t have the medical resources that we have today. Plus they thought of disabled children as living with sin. Paterfamilias could put to death his children and his slaves for any act of disobedience or disloyalty. After observing the welsh medieval law it appears to echo Roman law, however one difference I have noted is that welsh law did not recognise the roman distinction between sale and exchange. A main reason to this may do with the limited supply of minted coins in wales so unable to carry out commercial transactions, and instead carried out echange described as cyfnewid. So in this aspect Welsh Law of Hywel Dda was not as sophisticated as roman law, but Welsh law evolved in a certain way to deal with the economy. The basis of criminal law in medieval welsh law was the ââ¬Å"three columns of the law,â⬠which were homicide, theft and arson. In regards to homicide a killing had to be intentional for there to be punishment, and an unintentional killing would be resolved by compensation only. No compensation payable if the victim deserved to die, only due in the case of accidental killing, galanas. A physician was liable for the death of a wounded man to whom he gave treatment, particularly when he had failed to apply the skill expected of him. This is recognised in our modern laws of today as a form of professional negligence. A relict of Roman law is the ritual in confronting the thief, and gaining admission to search premises and requiring the suspect to swear as to whether the property was in possession. A judge who gave a wrong judgement could be sued, the roman equivalent to this law is known as qui litemsuam fecit. In medieval wales theft was regarded as a very serious crime and compensation and punishment was awarded. In addition to compensation for the damage caused, there was another form of compensation the sarhad. Sarhad means an insult and has to be intentional, the roman comparison is the iniuria. As can be clearly identified Welsh law differed to roman law on being a legal system that was compensation based rather than punishment. The reason this may have been the case is due to people in medieval wales saw compensation as a more just payment and solvement of the case. As the economic value in wales was very poor, more people probably would rather the money or equivalent to the money than justice served. So making amends is better than punishment being carried out. An issue to this was that those who were financially stable would be able to be above the law and commit crimes as they could afford the compensation and wouldnââ¬â¢t have to worry about the repercussions of their actions. As you look more in depth at the law of hywel dda as the state grew stronger, punishment was becoming more important but compensation still had priority. The payment was meant to buy off the vengence of the other group and prevent a blood feud arising. At the time of medieval Wales the law on issuing compensation rather than punishment to the welsh people probably appeared to them as sophisticated and just. However to modern eyes the Roman law model appears more equitable and just as they punished those at fault and is like our legal system of the 21st century. ââ¬Å"The detail the law books supply with regard to the judicial process of the welsh laws go far to revealing their sophistication.â⬠The administrative system of medieval Wales is like the roman jury system. The sophistication is provided by the roman model as this is the template that is adapted to fit in with the welsh system. ââ¬Å"Different forms of witness were of acute concern to medieval lawyers, for in an age without police or forensic science the problem of proof was particularly difficult. Moreover, in a small-scale society, the difficulty of obtaining impartial witnesses might be severe.â⬠The judge placed specific emphasis on quantity of witnesses, as they believed the more people you had on your side the stronger your case. Yet quantity isnââ¬â¢t quality, as you could have fifty witnesses who are all liars, better to have one truthful person which our modern law system is based on today. It is also equity based as the medieval welsh law followed the roman law and didnââ¬â¢t go back to the Celtic times of trial by ordeal and instead stayed sophisticated with a legal system put in place by the Romans. The Romans introduced a legal system which is a hallmark of their system, even though it was expensive as they had to give jobs for the legal professions, justice was above this they wanted it to prevail. A clear and distinctive identity of welsh law is the treatment of foreigners, where they provided privileges for visitors like food and shelter. This maybe due to the type of society formed as Wales was a close knit nation, needing tourism. Furthermore the Law of Hywel Dda was mainly written in Welsh furthering its distinctiveness of welsh laws. The laws of courts contain discussion of the status of the king, the members of the royal family. The queen was allotted 1/3 of the kings income for her personal use and that she is accorded a status greater than that of any of the court officers. This reflects the higher status enjoyed by women under the laws of Hywel Dda than in most contemporary legal systems. ââ¬âmaybe from the book. The Roman legal system is indeed different from what we follow but there are parallels in the roles of the participants, in the value of established procedure and precedent, and particularly in the many Latin terms and phrases that are still part of our legal language today. Romes continuing influence on society today is apparent in the government structure and legal system in use in much of the western world. One of the most sophisticated and practical systems of jurisprudence which the world has so far produced, and one merits of which allowed it to re-emerge in not just the medieval law but the legal system of Britain today and as the basis of the family of legal systems known as the civil law. Even the Welsh Dragon of our nations flag is actually symbol of authority by Romans. Welsh laws are officially regarded as the customs of the people. Distinguished from Roman law, laws of the emperor and medieval welsh laws are different. Enforce a law rather create law. He saw himself as a ruler/governor of Wales not as an emperor, so saw himself as enforcing things. I think that Roman law was the initial building bricks for the construction of law we know today and even though certain aspects of the law of hywell dda is unique to welsh medieval law, the main foundation is roman. yolandaedwards192http://www.blogger.com/profile/18230721373980199964noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6403820131350011494.post-1783667792530379262020-01-18T16:52:00.001-08:002020-01-18T16:52:04.850-08:00Extended Family Cover EssaySurvey respondents believe that women are not as ââ¬Å"internationally mobileâ⬠as men, yet 80 percent of female expatriates have never turned down a relocation, compared to 71 percent of men. A second powerful assumption is that women encounter more work-life conflict while managing a global schedule. However, nearly half of both women and men report that they find work-life balance difficult. Finally, survey respondents believe clients outside the United States are not as comfortable doing business with women as they are with men. In fact, 76 percent of women expatriates said being a woman had a positive or neutral impact on their effectiveness overseas. Both women and men, managers and human resources executives, hold the preconceptions that emerged in this study about womenââ¬â¢s ability in the international arena. Yet paradoxically, 90 percent of female expatriates, 91 percent of women with global responsibility who havenââ¬â¢t relocated, and 93 percent of men married to expatriates said they would accept their current assignments again. In fact, current expatriates (85 percent) and former expatriates (86 percent) believe global experience makes them more marketable to other companies. Compared in the past, companies at present become more open in having women as part of the workforce and consider them in equal footing as their male employees. Working Woman magazine cited Philip Morris as a company where 31 percent of all managers are women. With respect to international assignments, Philip Morris makes sure that women are tapped for those assignments. Another company, Hewlett-Packard, has a woman leading the company. The chair, president, and CEO of Hewlett-Packard is Carly Fiorina. She makes Hewlett-Packard one of only two companies in the Fortune 500 with a woman as chair, president, and CEO. Hewlett-Packard, which has a strong international presence, has a long history of supporting and promoting women (Palagano & Lee, October 2005). The next items are the list of favorable companies that provide as much benefits to working mothers in their organization: Microsoft, Bacardi and Computer Associates all offer family healthcare benefits packages for partners and their children. It helps to maintain high worker performance and establishing a caring reputation are the important motivating factors, as employers believe satisfied employees will spread the word about a companyââ¬â¢s practices (ââ¬Å"Extended Family Cover,â⬠2004). While BMW Plant Oxford, manufacturer of the Mini Cooper, presents different options of flexible, voluntary family benefits, that include insurance products, dental coverage and healthcare cash plans; workers have an option to devise their own benefits packages tailored to individual family needs. BMW also offers family social events, it is one of their strategies to improve worker morale and performance, intensifying job engagement and encouraging better relationships among employees (ââ¬Å"Extended Family Cover,â⬠2004). Mothers schedule their own breaks in lactation rooms that have hospital-grade pumps, refrigerators for storing milk, curtained-off nursing stations for privacy and a supply of educational materials along with a registered nurse for onsite support (Callahan, 2005). Aetna Inc. ââ¬Ës Mothers at Work program, which received a 100% satisfaction rating from participating nursing mothers, has lactation rooms in its 50 locations and an in-house Web site with information for breastfeeding mothers returning to work. Other avenues of discussion in this analytical paper will include mothers, female prophecy, and virginity, and as Rackin states, ââ¬Å"No woman is the protagonist in a Shakespearean history play.à Renaissance gender role definitions prescribed silence as a feminine virtue, and Renaissance sexual mythology associated the feminine with body and matter as a opposed to masculine intellect and spirit.â⬠(329), thus, women could not be considered even a main character in these plays unless she became married, or as in A Midsummer Nightââ¬â¢s Dream the woman sacrificed herself for her male counterpart. Shakespeareââ¬â¢s play A Midsummer Nightââ¬â¢s Dream is not only an allegory, but within the story there exists another allegory.à Shakespeare creates a play in which events take place as they would in the real world, or seemingly so, but juxtaposed with this storyline Shakespeare includes a second story with Oberon and Titania thus presenting to the audience a layered story.à Aristotle wrote that art is an action which is defined through mimesis; as such, the play A Midsummer Nightââ¬â¢s Dream is written partly as a dialogue of the possibilities of life (as can be witnessed with the humans of the story) and partly as a dialogue for the fantastical (as is written pertaining to the faeries of the play). The argument then arises from, Jacobus, that offers, is drama an imitation of life, or is life an imitation of drama, and in Shakespeareââ¬â¢s play, the answer is cleverly disguised between his layering of reality in fantasy in which the real becomes so engrossed in the fantasy, as if the scenes set in the forest are each under the spell of Puck.à It is in Puckââ¬â¢s reality that all of the protagonists exist and thereby the answer to Jacobusââ¬â¢ question may be analyzed. The theme of Shakespeareââ¬â¢s play can aptly be stated as ââ¬Ëlove in idlenessââ¬â¢ since this is also the name of the flower Robin Goodfellow or Puck uses to cause the characters to fall in love with each other (Lysander with Helena then Demetrius with Helena and as Oberon uses it to cause Titania to fall in love with Bottom) Yet mark'd I where the bolt of Cupid fell: It fell upon a little western flower, Before milk-white, now purple with love's wound, And maidens call it love-in-idleness. (Shakespeare 2004; Act 2 Scene 1) In this plot, it is revealed that drama in part is imitating life.à Love in idleness is a circular event in life that seems abysmal in its foreplay, and desperate in its reality.à As each character falls in love with the wrong character, or is forced to fall in love with another person, Jacobusââ¬â¢ claim that characters are the building blocks of allowing the audience to identify with the actions of the play as they relate to their life, is succinctly pandering to Aristotleââ¬â¢s concepts of drama in imitation of art. The characters frolic around the wood, hopelessly in love with one another, and loved by the wrong person, as is shown in the four couples Lysander, Hermia, Demetrius and Helena while the faeries in turn present the audience with how ridiculous this love in idleness is defined in showing Titania in love with Bottom who has been transformed into a donkey.à Aristotleââ¬â¢s definition for a tragic hero is one who is not in control of his own fate, but instead is ruled by the gods in one fashion or another (Jones 1962). The theme of Shakespeareââ¬â¢s play delves into the morality of his intent to present the audience in stride with how to perceive their own lives and loves in relation to the events that transpire in the woods.à In context of the play, Aristotleââ¬â¢s mimesis gives the audience a chance to pause and consider the motive of love both in terms of the reality that Shakespeare delivers with Lysander, Hermia, Demetrius and Helena and the motivation of love when it is juxtaposed with Titania and Bottom. As Jacobus states, although drama has the ââ¬Ëcapacity to hold up an illusion of reality like the reflection in a mirror: we take for granted while recognizing that it is nonetheless illusoryââ¬â¢ (Jacobus 2005; 1-2).à Thus, it may be extolled from this statement that illusion transforms the allegory of the play into applicable terms whereby the audience becomes not only immersed in the play and its actions and characters, but also takes those actions and characters to stand as testaments to their life experiences. The fact that the characters lose themselves in a maze of darkness and fog and awake approached by Theseus and Hippolyta who are likened to the gaurdians of the play or the characters of reason, stand in testement to the actions of the characters and it is accepted that Lysander and Hermia are united and Demetrius and Helena join together in a group wedding. Shakespeareââ¬â¢s play however does not end there but continues with the theme of love in idleness with the mechanicals performing the myth Pyramus and Thisbe in which both lovers kill themselves because each assumes the other is dead.à This is Shakespeareââ¬â¢s way of contributing both the graceful and loving end of one story, with the humans in the forest, as well as showing with this play, how love may go awry and become a tragedy.à The love in idleness theme is subsequently debunked in Shakespeareââ¬â¢s play merely by the endings in which even Oberon and Titania reunite. Jacobus states, ââ¬Å"The action of most drama is not drawn from our actual experience of life, but from our potential or imagined experienceâ⬠(Jacobus 2005; 1-2), thereby exhibiting the idea that a play can give the audience different proscenium displays or possibilities by which they may lead their life, or a review of what life may become.à The subject of drama as it applies to life then becomes more focused on avenues of probability and possibility. Thus, in Shakespeareââ¬â¢s play A Midsummer Nightââ¬â¢s Dream the audience envisions three different chances of love; with the humans, with the faeries and with the doomed lovers as performed by the mechanicals. Drama then is a way in which a person may identify with fictitious characters and design their own possibility of pleasures through that character.à Often times drama leaves an audience member questioning life, be it positive or negative and thereby adhering to Aristotleââ¬â¢s ideas of reflection, and it is this reflection that makes us human.à In being given these different paths of love in A Midsummer Nightââ¬â¢s Dream the audience is given the oppurtunity to envision life differently and vicariously through these characers. In fact that is the purpose of drama, to present the audience with a vicarious option of examining life.à Although there is no ritual or religious interpretation associated with drama today (unless the playwright intends it) the genre of drama is best described as not only entertainment but a tool by which reality may be examained through make-believe characters in real life situations and themes. In the theme that is present in Shakepeareââ¬â¢s Midsummer Nightââ¬â¢s Dream love in idleness is a very prevalent topic.à Although each character in the play has a deep devotion to another character such passion is lost in the woods when the characters are left to the devices of Puck, and his chicanery.à The guiding light of love in this play may best be seen with Oberon and Titania as they are the ruling factors of love.à Their love however has been thwarted due to the presence of an Indian child and the jealousy of Oberon and the bullheadedness of Titania.à The theme within the theme in this context may best be described as compromise. The relationship between Oberon and Titania my be defined as a quintessential part of the character develoment between male and female, ââ¬Å"â⬠¦Shakespeare depicts male protagnosts defending masculineâ⬠¦projects against both female characters who threaten to obstruct those projects and feminine appeals to the audience that threatedn to discredit them.à IN shakespeareââ¬â¢s laterâ⬠¦plays thos rfeminine voice become more insistent. They both threaten to invalidate the great, inheritedâ⬠¦myths that Shakespeare found in his historiiographic sources and imply that abefore they masculine voiceâ⬠¦can be accepted as valid,it must come to terms with women and the subversive forced they represetn.à However, as soon as Shakesperae attmpts to incorporate those feminine forces, marryign words and things, spirit and matterâ⬠¦(it) becomes problematicâ⬠¦Ã¢â¬ (Rackin 330). This statement suggests that if Shakespeare did not marry off his female characters the audience would believe it as possible nor would they accept it.à In the case of Titania and Oberon, it is Oberonââ¬â¢s masculinity that must make Titaniaââ¬â¢s will submissive to him and to give him what he wants (in this case her Indian).à In this case, the two characters are already married and this struggle of wills suggests that a man must constantly be domineering and gain what he wants through force and trickery. This shows that the dynamic of marriage in Shakepseareââ¬â¢s plays is exhibited with force.à In the other characters in the play, the oneââ¬â¢s who are not yet married, that is Hermia and Helena, they are full of anticipation to get married but both had to first experience what it was like to not have their counterpart and suffere through the period of not being love; neither of the men truly suffer in A Midsummer Nightââ¬â¢s Dream, which suggests that Shakespeareââ¬â¢s female characters must prove their love, while the men of the play have no such duties. The difference then between the marriad and the unmarried woman in A Midsummer Nightââ¬â¢s Dream is that the unmarried women must convince the men that they are loved while the married woman, Titania, must re-learn obedience. The theme of love is envisioned well in this play as Shakespeare chooses to focus on the power of love through marriage as a tool of union.à In union is found the relevance of transisiton.à The characters in A Midsummer Nightââ¬â¢s Dream only become fully aware of their own intentions and feelings after they are given the drug from Puke and spend the night in the forest.à When awakened each character realizes their true desires.à In these desires in the morning the women are quieted because they feel as though they have seen the measure of their desire reflected in their male counterparts and as such it is only through marriage that they may be tamed.à Thus, Shakespeareââ¬â¢s female characters are revealed to be counterparts. This essay has argued for the interpretation of Shakespeareââ¬â¢s characters in A Midsummer Nightââ¬â¢s Dream to be the classical female archetypes such as wife, or lover.à The plan in the play reveals how women are induced to persuasion and almost hypnotized by love and desire as is seen with Titania, Hermia, and Helena.à Each character is in love, and at the end of the play this love becomes true instead of the farce of the beginning and middle of the play.à Love is the conquering power over women in Shakespeareââ¬â¢s A Midsummer Nightââ¬â¢s Dream. Similarly, another case in which social control is interpreted as a response to ethnical conflict occurred in Rwanda, a country located in East Africa. According to international law specialist John Quigley, Rwanda was ââ¬Å"probably the most concentrated mass killings ever seenâ⬠(Jones 2011 Page 346). In twelve weeks, approximately one million Tutsi, and tens of thousands of Hutus were murdered. An incident that occurred on April 6 1994 led the Hutus to express grievance against the Tutsis population in Rwanda. The death of the Rwandan president caused by a rocket attack ignited weeks of massacres between the Tutsis and Hutus. As a result, the Hutu population of Rwanda attempted to rid the entire Tutsi population. Within an hour of the plane crash, the Presidential Guard, along with armed forced and Hutu militia groups known as Interahamwe and Impuzamugambi assembled road blocks in the streets of Rwanda and began the Tutsis. A political vacuum erupted following April 7th after the Hutu Prime Minister and 10 of her Belgian bodyguards were killed (Jones 2011). The massacre began in Kigali, the capital city of Rwanda. Hutu extremists set up road blocks, and everyone passing through was forced to flash their identity cards. Those who were Tutsi were killing either machetes, clubs and other lethal weapons. This test has been taken by various literary characters. Chief Bromden in Ken Keseys One Flew over the Cuckoos Nest and Reverend Arthur Dimmesdale in Hawthornes The Scarlet Letter both appear to have taken and passed this test. It first seemed as though the Chief was going to fail this test of maturity in the mental ward that he was committed to. He had locked himself up by acting deaf and dumb. He had immense fear of the Combine, or society, that ruined things and people and treated them like machines, giving orders and controlling them. Soon enough to save the Chief, McMurphy arrived. He was lively, and not scared; the complete opposite of the Chief. This courage eventually passed on to the Chief. At a meeting, when McMurphy was holding a vote to prove that the patients wanted to see the World Series, the Chief voted for it. At first he said that McMurphy controlled his hand. Later on he admitted that it was he who raised it. He even talked to McMurphy one night, and began laughing at the situation at hand. One day when McMurphy and the Chief tried to help another patient who was being taken advantage of by orderlies, they were caught and sentenced to electro-shock therapy (EST). The Chi usually blacked out in a fog when confronted with problems; however, this time (he had endured over 200 EST sessions previously) he did not. However, McMurphy was deteriorating, and the two seemed to be reversing positions. McMurphy eventually was sentenced to a lobotomy, which left him as a helpless, pathetic person, as the Chief had once been. The Chief now had the courage to put McMurphy out of his misery, despite what the head nurse, Nurse Ratched, the symbol of the combine to the Chief, would do to him. He smothered McMurphy, and afterwards, escaped by lifting the control panel, which McMurphy told him that he could lift but the Chief saw himself as small, a symbol of his strength against the combine, and breaking a window with it. The mere fact that the Chief could lift the panel was proof that he had become bigger, even than McMurphy, who could not lift it. By confronting his fear and dealing with it, the Chief passed his test of maturity. Reverend Dimmesdale also lived in fear. Fear that one day he would be found out as the father of the child of Hester Prynne, and an adulterer. If he was found out, he could not serve his purpose on this earth: Relaying Gods word to the people. He feared that if found out, he would be humiliated like Hester was. Also, he feared that Chillingworth, Hesters husband, would take revenge upon him for corrupting her. Dimmesdale eventually faced his fears, and in front of the townspeople, he, Hester, and Pearl, their daughter, got up on the scaffolding that was used to punish Hester, and confessed to his crimes. He passed his test of maturity because he confronted the fear, and was not overcome by it, (although it almost did overcome him: His health was failing rapidly due to his guilty conscience). He knew that he would be humiliated, and that he was to leave town with Hester that very day, but he confessed anyway. His confession shows his maturity and proves that he passed the test. A test of maturity is whether or not one is overcome by the fear they live with. .uef88034ab55eb0f9224d1e5ecc0f76d9 , .uef88034ab55eb0f9224d1e5ecc0f76d9 .postImageUrl , .uef88034ab55eb0f9224d1e5ecc0f76d9 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .uef88034ab55eb0f9224d1e5ecc0f76d9 , .uef88034ab55eb0f9224d1e5ecc0f76d9:hover , .uef88034ab55eb0f9224d1e5ecc0f76d9:visited , .uef88034ab55eb0f9224d1e5ecc0f76d9:active { border:0!important; } .uef88034ab55eb0f9224d1e5ecc0f76d9 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .uef88034ab55eb0f9224d1e5ecc0f76d9 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .uef88034ab55eb0f9224d1e5ecc0f76d9:active , .uef88034ab55eb0f9224d1e5ecc0f76d9:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .uef88034ab55eb0f9224d1e5ecc0f76d9 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .uef88034ab55eb0f9224d1e5ecc0f76d9 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .uef88034ab55eb0f9224d1e5ecc0f76d9 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .uef88034ab55eb0f9224d1e5ecc0f76d9 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .uef88034ab55eb0f9224d1e5ecc0f76d9:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .uef88034ab55eb0f9224d1e5ecc0f76d9 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .uef88034ab55eb0f9224d1e5ecc0f76d9 .uef88034ab55eb0f9224d1e5ecc0f76d9-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .uef88034ab55eb0f9224d1e5ecc0f76d9:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Earth Art - Creating Art from Nature Essay The Chief and Dimmesdale are two literary characters who lived in fear and overcame it. In sourcing green coffee beans, it was increasingly dealing directly with farmer. It normally offered high prices to ensure that the poor small coffee growers have enough money to cover their production cost and for their families. To buy coffee beans, Starbucks used fixed price purchase commitments to limits its exposure to fluctuating coffee prices in upcoming periods and on occasion, purchased coffee futures contracts to provide price protection. Starbuck sourced bean from multiple geographic areas not only allowed it to offer a variety range of coffee to customer but also spread the companyââ¬â¢s risks such as weather, fluctuated price, political and economic issues in coffee-growing areas. This enabled the company to predict prices over multiple crop years. In 2003, Starbucks marketed Fair Trade Certified coffee at most of its retail stores through some 350 universities and hotel locations that were licensed to sell Starbucks coffees. Starbucks used a local partner/licensee to help it recruit talented employees, set up supplier relationships, locate suitable store sites. To avoid problems, Starbucks looked for partner/licensees that had strong retail/restaurant experience, had values and a corporate culture compatible with Starbucks, were committed to good customer service, possessed talented management and strong financial resources, and had demonstrated brand-building skills. In additional with Starbuckââ¬â¢s strategy in major metropolitan cities was to blanket the area with stores. Though the new tore might generate only few revenue, the management believe ââ¬ËStarbucks everywhereââ¬â¢ approach cut down on delivery and management cost, shortened customer lines at individual stores, and increase foot traffic for all store areas. With this store expansion strategy, Starbucks selected a large city to serve as a ââ¬ËHUBââ¬â¢; team of professional were located in hub cities to support the goal of open ing stores. At the time of equipment needed for new stores, the retail operation group outlined exactly the minimum amount of equipment each core store needed sot that standard items could be ordered in volume from vendors at 20-30% discount. The whole store layout was developed on computer, with software that allowed the costs to be estimated as the designed evolved â⬠¢Outbound Logistic: Trying to extend the shelf life of packaged Starbucks coffee to 26 weeks, after the beans were roasted and cooled, the coffee were immediately vacuum-sealed in one way valve bags that let out gases naturally produced by fresh-roasted beans without letting oxygen in and kept in one way valve. However, it removed coffees from its shelves after three months. Starbuck had eight roasting factories which allowed them to supplied its stores worldwide. â⬠¢Marketing Sales: Starbucks spent only little money on advertising. Mostly it aimed to build its reputation by world of mouths and cup by cup strategy. This strategy proved to be viable since Starbuckââ¬â¢s reputation reached new market even before store opened. Starbuck had a specialty sales group that provided its coffee product to restaurant, airlines, universities, hospitals, business offices, country club and select retails. This sales group had won many sales agreements for Starbucks such as coffee account at Sheraton and Westin hotels, Wells Fargo to provide coffee service at some of the bankââ¬â¢s locations in California, U. Support Activities â⬠¢HRM: Starbuck considered its workforces as valuable resources. The managements understand that their growth and prosperity depended on its staffs. Starbucks referred its staffs as partner. Moreover, one of their major objectives was to ingrain the companyââ¬â¢s values, principles and culture and to pass on their knowledge about coffee and their passion about Starbucks. In the book there is a theme of loneliness. George and Lennie plan to buy a farm for just them two to live on so they wont have to worry about being lonely. Well, well have a big vegetable patch and a rabbit hutch and chickens. And when it rains in the winter, well just say the hell with goin to work, and well build up a fire in the stove and set around it an listen to the rain comin down on the roof.. There dream is giving them something to work for so they can forget about being lonely and have a great life. The writer presents George and Lennies relationship as close but George gets really protective of Lennie. Hide in the brush till I come for you. dont let nobody see you. This shows that George does not want Lennie to get caught if he does something bad. But if he does get caught he wants him to be safe and so they can stay together. This is also giving the reader a little clue that he might get in trouble later on in the story. Without a doubt the writer succsessfully shows George and Lennies relationship as not very good at times. When I think of the swell time I could have without you I go nuts. This is suggesting that George is getting very sick of Lennie always getting them both in trouble because whenever he does do something bad they both have to move and get a new job. He is also getting sick of Lennies childish behaviour and how he constantly has to remind Lennie what to do and tell him about their plans all of the time. When George says this Lennie tells him taht if he wants he will go off on is own and live by himself because he knows George cares about him but thinks he is too much for him to handle. This means that George doesent want Lennie around all the time because he is too much bother and he is ruining Georges life. Also George wants them to stick together bacause it is during the great depression. The writer also shows George as a father figure for Lennie by how he tells Lennie what to do. Lennie, for god sakes, donââ¬â¢t drink so muchââ¬â¢. This is because George cares for Lennie and doesnââ¬â¢t want him to get sick. It is like how a parent would tell their child not to drink too much and to not be greedy. When George syas for god sakes it shows how George is getting a bit annoyed at Lennie because he says it sort of snapping at him. ââ¬ËGeorge raised the gun and steadied it and brought the muzzle of it close to the back of Lennies headââ¬â¢. George shoots Lennie because he is always getting them both into trouble and George is getting sick of it. The writer drags it out to build up the tension so the reader can imagine how horrible it would be for George to do it after he promised Lennies aunt that he would look after him. George cares for Lennie so he doesnââ¬â¢t want him to get hurt, ââ¬ËGet him Lennie, donââ¬â¢t let him do itââ¬â¢. This is particularly effective because it shows how George wants Lennnie to be able to fight back and stick up for himself so he doesnââ¬â¢t have to fight for him all of the time, but doesnââ¬â¢t want Lennie to be pushed around all the time so it shows that their relationship is close. Where we going George? ââ¬â¢ ââ¬ËSo you forgot already did you? I gotta tell you again? ââ¬â¢ Lennie forgets everything, so George always has to remind him of their plans and what they are doing which is why George gets very annoyed with him at times. When George says again this is showing that he has already explaind their plans to Lennie and that he is slowly getting sick of telling hi m. Also when he says already this is showing that George is expecting Lennie to forget what he told him but he didnt expect it to be quite so soon. Lennie looks up to George and copies everything he does. Lennie who had been watching imitated George exactly. This is because he follows George around all the time so he is like a father figure. Also because George does everything right, Lennie wants to be just like him. George tells Lennie to stay away from Curly and his wife because he knows that they are trouble and he doesnââ¬â¢t want Lennie getting them both in bother with Curly. This is showing George as being very protective of Lennie because he knows what Curly is like and he knows that he will end up getting hurt. In the beginning, Geeorge and Lennie are on their way to where they will start work because Lennie got them both in big trouble at their last job because he is clumsy and doesnââ¬â¢t think, which is why George has to tell hime what to do and keep him out of trouble like a parent and their child. George has to tell Lennie where to go if he gets in trouble because he knows he will get into trouble because he always gets into trouble but he wants to make sure that he is okay and that they can stay together and so George can look after Lennie like he promised his aunt. yolandaedwards192http://www.blogger.com/profile/18230721373980199964noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6403820131350011494.post-91022575612076771582019-11-22T22:47:00.001-08:002019-11-22T22:47:04.856-08:00Battle of Monmouth in the American RevolutionBattle of Monmouth in the American Revolution The Battle of Monmouth was fought on June 28, 1778, during the American Revolution (1775 to 1783). Major General Charles Leeà commanded 12,000 men of the Continental Army under the leadership of General George Washington. For the British,à General Sir Henry Clintonà commanded 11,000 men under the leadership ofà Lieutenant General Lord Charles Cornwallis. The weather was extremely hot during the battle,à and almost as many soldiers died from heatstroke as from battle. Background With the French entry into the American Revolution in February 1778, British strategy in America began to shift as the war became increasingly global in nature. As a result, the newly appointed commander of the British Army in America, General Sir Henry Clinton, received orders to dispatch part of his forces to the West Indies and Florida. Though the British had captured the rebel capital of Philadelphia in 1777, Clinton, soon to be short on men, decided to abandon the city the following spring to focus on protecting his base at New York City. Assessing the situation, he originally wanted to withdraw his army by sea, but a shortage of transports compelled him to plan a march north. On June 18, 1778, Clinton began evacuating the city, with his troops crossing Delaware at Coopers Ferry. Moving northeast, Clinton initially intended to march overland to New York, but later opted to move towardà Sandy Hook and take boats to the city. Washingtons Plan While the British commenced planning their departure from Philadelphia, General George Washingtons army was still at its winter quarters encampment at Valley Forge, where it had been tirelessly drilled and trained by Baron von Steuben.à Learning of Clintons intentions, Washington sought to engage the British before they could reach the safety of New York. While many of Washingtons officers favored this aggressive approach, Major General Charles Lee strenuously objected. A recently released prisoner of war and an adversary of Washingtons, Lee argued that the French alliance meant victory in the long run and that it was foolish to commit the army to battle unless they had overwhelming superiority over the enemy. Weighing the arguments, Washington elected to pursue Clinton. In New Jersey, Clintons march was moving slowly due to an extensive baggage train. Arriving at Hopewell, NJ, on June 23, Washington held a council of war. Lee once again argued against a major attack, and this time managed to sway his commander. Encouraged in part by suggestions made by Brigadier General Anthony Wayne, Washington decided instead to send a force of 4,000 men to harass Clintons rearguard. Due to his seniority in the army, Lee was offered command of this force by Washington. Lacking confidence in the plan, Lee declined this offer and it was given to the Marquis de Lafayette. Later in the day, Washington enlarged the force to 5,000. Upon hearing this, Lee changed his mind and demanded that he be given command, which he received with strict orders that he was to hold a meeting of his officers to determine the plan of attack. Lees Attack and Retreat On June 28, Washington received word from the New Jersey militia that the British were on the move. Directing Lee forward, he instructed him to strike the flank of the British as they marched up Middletown Road. This would halt the enemy and allow Washington to bring up the main body of the army. Lee obeyed Washingtons earlier order and held a conference with his commanders. Rather than devising a plan, he told them to be alert for orders during the battle. Around 8 p.m. on June 28, Lees column encountered the British rear guard under Lieutenant General Lord Charles Cornwallis just north of Monmouth Court House. Rather than launch a coordinated attack, Lee committed his troops piecemeal and quickly lost control of the situation. After a few hours of fighting, the British moved to flank Lees line. Seeing this movement, Lee ordered a general retreat up the Freehold Meeting House-Monmouth Court House Road after offering little resistance. Washington to the Rescue While Lees force was engaging Cornwallis, Washington was bringing up the main army. Riding forward, he encountered the fleeing soldiers from Lees command. Appalled by the situation, he located Lee and demanded to know what had happened. After receiving no satisfactory answer, Washington rebuked Lee in one of the few instances in which he swore publicly. Dismissing his subordinate, Washington set to rallying Lees men. Ordering Wayne to establish a line north of the road to slow the British advance, he worked to establish a defensive line along a hedgerow. These efforts held off the British long enough to allow the army to take up positions to the west, behind the West Ravine. Moving into place, the line saw Major General William Alexanders men on the left and Major General Nathanael Greenes troops to the right. The line was supported to the south by artillery on Combs Hill. Falling back to the main army, the remnants of Lees forces, now led by Lafayette, re-formed to the rear of the new American line with the British in pursuit. The training and discipline instilled by von Steuben at Valley Forge paid dividends, and the Continental troops were able to fight the British regulars to a standstill. Late in the afternoon, with both sides bloodied and exhaustedà from the summer heat, the British broke off the battle and withdrew toward New York. Washington wished to continue the pursuit, but his men were too exhausted and Clinton had reached the safety of Sandy Hook. The Legend of Molly Pitcher While many of the details regarding the involvement of a Molly Pitcher in the fighting at Monmouth have been embellished or are in dispute, it seems there was indeed a woman who brought water to American artillerymen during the battle. This would have been no small feat, as it was desperately needed not only to alleviate the mens suffering in the intense heat but also to swab the guns during the reloading process. In one version of the story, Molly Pitcher even took over from her husband on a gun crew when he fell, either wounded or from heatstroke. It is believed that Mollys real name wasà Mary Hayes McCauly, but, again, the exact details and extent of her assistance during the battle is unknown. Aftermath Casualties for the Battle of Monmouth, as reported by each commander, were 69 killed in battle, 37 dead from heatstroke, 160 wounded, and 95 missing for the Continental Army. British casualties included 65 killed in battle, 59 dead from heatstroke, 170 wounded, 50 captured, and 14 missing. In both cases, these numbers are conservative and losses were more likely 500 to 600 for Washington and over 1,100 for Clinton. The battle was the last major engagement fought in the northern theater of the war. Thereafter, the British holed up in New York and shifted their attention to the southern colonies. Following the battle, Lee requested a court-martial to prove that he was innocent of any wrongdoing. Washington obliged and filed formal charges. Six weeks later, Lee was found guilty and suspended from the service. yolandaedwards192http://www.blogger.com/profile/18230721373980199964noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6403820131350011494.post-35214890133450631372019-11-21T03:37:00.001-08:002019-11-21T03:37:05.183-08:00Legal theory Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 3000 wordsLegal theory - Essay Example It is hence a typically Platonic argument.2 Nussbaum firmly claims that a good judge appreciates the poetics of justice. Essentially, the argument of Nussbaum implies that a good judge fulfils his/her professional existence most wholly when s/he is equipped to defend and oppose, and be condemned or repealed, in seeking justice. The clash between the natural law and positivism should be very definite if a judge is to depend on the notion of poetic justice to the core of fair dealing. The judge should make a decision: does this positivistic law go against the heart of my responsibility to humanity and to self? The endeavour is exceptionally challenging. To society it is normally baffling. That challenge is not yet met, albeit the insistent demand by judges for justice and rationality. The objective of this essay is to discuss the argument of Nussbaum in light of the two novels of William Shakespeare, namely, Measure for Measure and The Merchant of Venice. The discussion will revolve ar ound the specific themes of law and morality: Christianity, common law, and the debate of natural law and positivism. ... The Duke cautions Angelo that individual morality should be enacted freely or in public3: Heaven doth with us as we with torches do, Not light them for themselves; for if our virtues Did not go forth of us, ââ¬Ëtwere all alike As if we had them not.4 The above statement is reminiscent of a passage in Matthew 5:15-6, the Sermon on the Mount: ââ¬Å"Nether do men light a candel, and put it vnder a bushel, but on a candelsticke & it giueth light vnto all that are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may se your good workes, & glorifie your Father which is in heauen.â⬠5 The character of Angelo is recognised for his self-control and accuracy, although illustrations of him lean more on apathy than virtuosity. The glorified personal moral principles of Angelo are now subjected to criticism in his recently assigned public position. The conflict between the concept of natural justice and positivistic law, at this point, came in Angeloââ¬â¢s encounter with Isa bella. Isabella speaks up for mercy on the basis of understanding of oneââ¬â¢s immorality and emulation of Christââ¬â¢s life. Unluckily, Angelo is not convinced. Insincerity may be criticised by the passage ââ¬Ëjudge notââ¬â¢, yet it is not banned by the law, an argument Angelo has already stated earlier in the novel.6 Isabella justifies her argument when she implores Angelo to think about the judgement of God: ââ¬Å"How would you be, /If He, which is the top of judgment, should/ But judge you as you are?â⬠7 The allusion of the overgenerous mercy of Christ requires that the ââ¬Ëhumanââ¬â¢ or deficient Angelo ought not to give judgment on other mortal beings, a claim that appears to hark back Schleitheim Confessionââ¬â¢s article 68: The sword is ordained of God outside the perfection of yolandaedwards192http://www.blogger.com/profile/18230721373980199964noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6403820131350011494.post-80749902181269921022019-11-19T13:35:00.001-08:002019-11-19T13:35:04.728-08:00Investing in foreign hospitality industry in Switzerland Research PaperInvesting in foreign hospitality industry in Switzerland - Research Paper Example Swiss Statistics observes that the uncountable benefit has attracted more than 6,500 international foreign companies that are currently located in Switzerland. Globalization has increased customer base, as people travel for businesses and holiday, health and other purposes (Swiss Statistics, 2000). This increases the market for the industry of hospitality, with major income from international visitors. Visitors from various cultures, cuisines, customs and languages ensure variety of services that meet their needs. This greatly improves the hospital ity industry, and Mirvac Group of hotels will reap this benefit. Globalization also has negative effects on the hospitality industry like language barrier, cultural barrier, disasters or events in other countries, seasonal environment, bad habits, and crime rate increase. Though these may be a barrier to the hotel investment in Switzerland, the management should still invest here but employ people with wide language and cultural knowledge. These employees will effectively handle and serve different people from different cultural and language backgrounds. Goal is a Long-term end toward which programs or activities are directed. Goals are general and include no date of completion. Organizations are usually formed with the aim of achieving specific goals. These goals usually determine the direction that the organization will take over the long term and are not always very specific. Goals of organizations operating in the private sector generally revolve around the maximization of profits for the owners. However, some organizations also have other objectives that they may pursue in the short term. Objective is a specific, measurable, intermediate end that is achievable, sometimes measurable, and marks progress towards a goal. Objectives are action-orientated statements demonstrating the means to achieve a goal. Objectives often serve as the principles of setting up policies and evaluating the performance. An effective way to set objectives is to follow the well known acronym SMART. A SMART objective is specific, measurable, achievable, realistic and time scaled. An objective that follows SMART is more likely to succeed because it is clear (specific) so you know exactly what needs to be achieved. You can tell when it has been achieved (measurable) because you have a way to measure completion. A SMART objective is likely to happen because it is an event that is achievable. Before setting a SMART objective relevant factors such as resources and time were taken into account to ensure that it is realistic. Finally the timescale element provides a deadline which helps people focus on the tasks required to achieve the objective. The timescale element stops people postponing task completion. Policy is generally principles creating the course of action or way in which programs and activities are coordinated to achieve an identified goal or objective, supporting the action of the objectives. Scotia Airways is actually doing well at setting up goals, objectives and policies, it has set up several good goals: 1. Consumer goal is pertaining to the customer, Scotia Airways aims to provide exceptional value for money, unparalleled comfort and convenience to its passengers, every time they are on board; 2. Operational goals are the short-term tactics designed to achieve the companyââ¬â¢s long-term strategy. The management team within Scotia have worked meticulously in planning and evaluating their services to ensure that customer focus in the primary driver of business success; 3. Product goals are related to the quality, amount and service. This kind of goal is really important to Scotia Airways because they are doing a lot of work on service. They now offer several value added services. 4. Secondary goals. After the above important goals are achieved in the future, Scotia Airways may have to setup this kind of goal such as ameliorate their relationship between staffs and management estates. The investors in Scotia Airways have set an ambitious program for expansion over the next five years to include long haul destinations, itââ¬â¢s a very important objective for Scotia Airways. Scotia Airways has a wide ranging reward policy. After finishing the supervision of work amounts, in sales apartment employeeââ¬â¢s work performance increase an extra by 30% in a period of three months. By this way, Scotia Airways can motivate their staffs greatly. Organization In system theory, an open system is a system which continuously interacts with its environment or surroundings. The interaction can take the form of information, energy, or material transfers into or out of the system boundary, depending on the discipline which defines the concept. An open system is contrasted with the concept of an isolated system which exchanges neither energy, matter, nor information with its environment. The concept of an open system was formalized within a framework that enabled one to interrelate the organism, thermodynamics, and evolutionary theory. This concept was expanded upon with the advent of information theory and subsequently systems theory. Today the concept has its applications in the natural and social sciences. 3. Organizations have a formal structure which is the way that the organization is organized by those with responsibility for managing the organization. They create the formal structures that enable the organization to meet its stated objectives. Such as Marketing Department, Finance Department in Scotia Airways are all formal organizations. Actually Scotia Airways Co. is a formal organization. However, in the course of time an informal structure develops in most organizations which is based on the reality of day-to-day interactions between the members of the organization. This informal structure may be different from that which is set out on paper. Such as Scotia Airways may hold a party and employ some guards just for that party day. 4. Stakeholders are many different individuals or groups who affect or are affected by an organization. Stakeholders have an interest in a particular organization. External stakeholders: A party such as a customer, supplier, or lender that influences and is influenced by an organization but is not a member of it. Customers always enjoy better service. Since Scotia Airwaysââ¬â¢ major income is from its customers, it should change its service according to its customersââ¬â¢ demands. Internal Stakeholders: Individuals who reside inside the company as board members, executives, managers, employees, and trade unions and who benefit directly from their contributions to the growth of the company. In management estates, administrators always try to come up with better ideas making more profits for their companies and motivate their staffs to work harder. 5. Control often has an emotive connotation and is interpreted in a negative manner to suggest direction or command by the giving of orders. People may be suspicious of control systems and see them as emphasizing punishment, as an indication of authoritarian management and as a means of exerting pressure and maintaining discipline. In my opinion, since Scotia Airways doesnââ¬â¢t have many staffs right now and they are planning to expand their companies, I suggest they separate them into several groups and set up different objectives for each group. Itââ¬â¢s also important to enhance motivation for staffs. They can hold some parties and informal organizations increasingly. yolandaedwards192http://www.blogger.com/profile/18230721373980199964noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6403820131350011494.post-10221420637440456412019-11-14T14:39:00.001-08:002019-11-14T14:39:04.469-08:00School Days are the Happiest Days of your Life? :: Creative Writing ExamplesSchool Days are the Happiest Days of your Life? When I was given this assignment, my initial reaction was this is easy! Half an hours writing- homework complete. Fifteen minutes later I find that it is incredibly difficult to sort out the jumble of thoughts, memories and feelings, that are fighting each other in the race to be the first to blot this pristine white page.(melodramatic, but true) I suppose I could take the easy way out, and write that looking back; my school days were happy, carefree days. The sun always shone. I had no real worries. Friends were plentiful and life was all about, fun, fun, fun. Well I could, but that would entail not being completely honest. I mean, certainly a not immodest percentage of school, (compared with life today) was carefree but by no means all of it. My over-riding recollections of school are the memories of never quite fitting in; the never quite making it into the 'in crowd.' Not that I wanted in, you understand. I wanted to be different (not another lemming) just not so different that I stood out. I blame my mother for that mentality for she drummed it into us all. If I spoke the usual refrain," but all my friends are her response was always." if your friend stuck her hand in the fire- would you do it too?" Well the answer to that was no, and when you said so, mum would smile and say," of course not love, you have your own mind. You're not a lemming; don't be afraid to be different." I was left feeling proud of myself for being 'different', but oh God, I still wanted that denim jacket, or those Adidas trainers, or to stay out for that extra half an hour; or the myriad of other 'things' that would have enabled me to fit in. Money was always tight when I was at school. With four kids to buy for - I feel mum used the lemming story no us, just so she wouldn't have to say "I can't afford it." At school, every deficit, both real and imagined between you and the 'in crowd' made you insecure. It could be your haircut, shoes or even just the number of pleats our gym skirt had. (Mine had none.) Plain skirts were cheaper. Positive Body Image, or lack of it in my case, was a major problem. I went through school convinced that I was fat and ugly. Fat!? I was only 81/2 stones! I would kill to be that weight again - and as for my yolandaedwards192http://www.blogger.com/profile/18230721373980199964noreply@blogger.com0
